About

A language school idea, ten years in the making.

Oravita is an AI-powered add-on to language classes, a product and brand of abc multilingual collective AG in Zug, Switzerland. Learners practise speaking with an AI avatar in realistic virtual scenes, in real time and without scripts.

Our story

01

Speaking is the skill you cannot practise alone.

Oravita began with a request that Isabelle von Niederhäusern heard again and again. When she opened her language school ten years ago, her clients kept asking for one thing: more chances to speak. Grammar and vocabulary can be studied alone. Conversation needs someone on the other side, and in a group lesson each learner gets only a few minutes of it.

02

The idea came from gaming.

Video games had shown how quickly people feel at home in a virtual world. Isabelle began to imagine a world built for language learning, where every object, shop sign and passer-by is something to talk about. For years the hardware and speech technology were not ready, so she kept the idea alive through calls with researchers, engineers and entrepreneurs.

03

Then the technology caught up.

An Innosuisse innovation project with ETH Zürich as research partner, one of 81 selected from around 270 applications, turned the concept into a working prototype in English and French. A team of researchers, LLM and AI avatar specialists, VR world developers and language teachers has built it since January 2026. More languages follow in 2027.

What we believe

Teachers stay at the centre.

Oravita is an add-on to language classes, not a replacement. It gives every learner the speaking time a group lesson cannot.

Language is culture.

Our avatars speak like the people of the place they represent, with the dialect, manners and expressions that go with it.

Practice without pressure.

No audience, no judgement. Learners can try, fail and try again until speaking feels natural.
